Course Syllabus 2024 - 2025

  • Required Materials:

    Most assignments will be completed on Canvas. There will be some assignments that students must be present in class to complete. It is essential that a charged MacBook is brought to class daily.

    • Laptop
    • Earbuds / Headphones
    • MacBook charger
    • General Supplies (pencils, pens, highlighters, 3-ring binder, loose-leaf paper, etc.)

    Basic Expectations and Procedures:

    • US Government Class (just like the actual US GovernmentONLY functions correctly when all participants are respectful and civil. ALL people and ideas are worthy of basic dignity and as such should feel comfortable attending class and sharing ideas.
      ***Anything less than a safe and respectful learning environment is simply unacceptable and will not be permitted. ***
    • Come to class PREPARED and ready to work each day. Being on time, completing Bell Ringers, participation in discussions, and timely completion of assignments are all important to your experience. Your willingness to be present and engaged will go a long way towards ensuring your success. 
    • When in doubt, you can be sure that I will follow all District and School Policy. Tardies, Hall Passes, Technology Expectations, Grading Scales, Exemptions, etc. are all outlined in the Handbook, and I will follow all guidelines as they are laid out.

    Policies Regarding Assignments and Grading:

    • All grades need to be viewed in ActiveStudentLinks to an external site.. *Canvas grades are not your final grades. *
    • Assessments will be both Formative (graded/ungraded exercises for practice) and Summative (graded exercises for measuring competencies in government).  
    • Grades will be assigned according to the ranges and weights established in the student handbook.  Point values of assignments will be determined according to their length and the amount of work required to complete them.  
    • Submit homework by the posted due date on Canvas for full credit.
    • Contact instructor for making prior arrangements if absent on a major assignment due date.
    • Late submission results in reduced points. 5 points deducted per day; minimum score: 50.
    • Make up missed work within the number of days absent.
    • Unexcused late submissions due to absence impact grade negatively.
    • Excused absences will allow arrangements for missed quizzes or tests.
    • Non-absence-related late work accepted with point deduction.

    Plagiarism:

    • Maintain integrity and honesty in all assignments.
    • Properly cite sources to avoid falsifying work.
    • Consequences will be administered per school policy for academic dishonesty.
