Mr. Tyler Johnson
Welcome to the Art Department at Madison Middle School.
I am extremely excited to be teaching at Madison Middle School again this year. This will be my eighth year teaching art and my fourth year teaching at MMS. This school is a special place! I have known that since my first day here. I previously taught Art I, II, III, & IV at Clinton High School and Art I & II at Forest Hill High School. I am originally from South Jackson and graduated from Forest Hill. I have lived in Madison for twelve years and I have a daughter starting sixth grade at Madison Middle and a son in first grade at Madison Avenue Lower. We love being Jaguars!
After high school, I attended Hinds Community College where a played soccer for two years and began taking art classes. I later transferred to Ole Miss where I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Art with an emphasis in graphic design and a minor in English. After college, I moved to Orlando and worked my way up to production manager at a prominent sign company where I made things for Universal Studios and B.A.S.S. just to name a few clients that we worked with regularly. A few years later, I decided that I wanted to be more involved in the fine arts so I came home and went back to Hinds where I completed an intensive teaching program to earn my teaching certification. I am an active artist in our local community. I have made signs and designed logos for some local companies such as Pizza Shack, Madison County Gymnastics, and Sal & Phil's. I also participate in art shows and festivals around the state where I show my paintings of MS wildlife, marine life, and landscapes. In November of 2016, Jackson Free Press named me as their Jacksonian. I look forward to a fun and entertaining year getting to know you and your student and helping them become more visually aware of the world they live in.
