Welcome to Mrs. Reed’s English II classroom. I am so happy to be a Jag again!! I hope you are equally excited to return to school, see friends, and start a routine again. I retired from the classroom (but not from working with students) in 2016 after 23 years at Madison Central. I am married to a very avid Jag fan, Jim, and we have three married children all of whom graduated from MC. We have been blessed with five beautiful grandchildren. Filling up our empty nest are our pets, Sadie and Kat.
These first few days will be somewhat less structured than normal. You will notice the smaller class size, the shorter time in class and at lunch, and much more digital learning than usual. Of course, there is the new fashion accessory we are all wearing—MASKS!! Even with all these changes, we have a tremendous responsibility to each other to continue to develop your academic acumen. I promise to always be prepared, ready for action, and I hope you will make the same commitment.
This year is a very important year in the life of a high school student. You are enrolled in English II which means you will be participating in the EOC assessment in the spring. Successful completion of this assessment is a requirement for graduation. So, while many things are different, our hard work must continue.
The course syllabus for all English II classes is based on the College-and-Career-Readiness Standards developed by the Mississippi Department of Education. This is a rigorous course of study and encompasses all components of English Language Arts: reading (literary and informational texts), writing (including the ability to demonstrate mastery of standard English and the rules of grammar), vocabulary, and test prep. In a few days you and your parents can check out more specific information about the course under “Syllabus” in CANVAS.
Finally, WELCOME BACK and GO JAGS!
