Dr. Payne

  • Hello Madison Central and Rosa Scott choir students and parents!

    My name is Jessica T. Payne, I am the assistant director of choirs for MC and Rosa. I'm so excited to get to know each of you this year.  This year I'll be working with SSA Madrigals, MC Chamber, Rosa Scott Chamber, the women of SATB madrigals, and our women's show choir, Renown. You'll see me in all the other choirs too and working with the musical production! 

    I'm originally from Batesville, MS, and I recently moved back to the state after five years of living in Oklahoma for school.  I have a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in conducting from the University of Oklahoma, a Master of Music degree from the University of Mississippi, and a Bachelor of Music Education from Delta State University.  Prior to graduate work, I taught elementary music in Vicksburg, MS.  Over the years, I worked closely with women's choirs and devoted my dissertation research to the 18th-century women's choirs of Venice hospitals. 

    Outside of school, I like to antique shop, watch historical dramas, sew, and fish with my husband, Daniel, who is also a musician (a drummer).  We've been married for six years and have two labradors, Smokey and Summer.
