    Welcome Message

    Welcome to 5th grade!

I am looking forward to this new school year. There are lots of new things to be learned and new friends to be made.

    Parents,

Hello and welcome back to school! I am excited to get to know not only your child but you as well. Having parental support and open lines of communication is an essential part of a successful school year. Thank you for all you do for your child and our school. PLEASE feel free to contact me at Luther Branson Elementary School at 601-859-2743 or by e-mail at dparks@madison-schools.com

    Students,

Fifth graders are the biggest role models for the younger students here. They look up to you! I am 110% sure that you are up to the challenge. Expectations are high in our fifth grade classroom. The key to our success is RESPECT. Respect to other students, teachers, the principal, parents and all others is expected at all times.

Fifth grade is a year full of changes, preparation, fun, and excitement. Working together with open lines of communication will help us succeed.

As we begin this final year of elementary school, let us make the commitment to work together to make this a SUPER year for the graduates of the class of 2021.

I am looking forward to a fun and exciting year with all of you!

    About the Teacher

My name is Mr. David Parks. I completed my Bachelor degree at Mississippi State University in August 1998. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. I am going into my 23rd year of teaching. All of my years of teaching have been at Luther Branson Elementary School. I believe this accomplishment is a true blessing because one of my desires growing up is to give back to my community. I am currently the fifth grade math, science, and social studies teacher. I taught fourth grade my first year, third grade my second year, and fifth grade the rest of my years of teaching. I have been blessed to earn the following honors and recognitions during my professional teaching career:

    • Luther Branson Elementary School Teacher of the Year, 2017 - 2018
    • Madison County School District Elementary Teacher of the Year, 2013 - 2014
    • Luther Branson Elementary School Teacher of the Year, 2013 - 2014
    • Honor in Excellence Teaching Award, 2013 (100 Black Men)
    • Metro Teacher Recognition Honoree, 2010
    • Luther Branson Elementary School Teacher of the Year, 2002 - 2003

I firmly believe that ALL children can learn with patience, love, and understanding. My goal for this year is to help your child to be an independent and responsible learner, as well as, to show him or her how to make responsible choices. To accomplish this goal, there will be regular homework and we will be making the most of our class time. My expectations for the students this year will be high as usual. They will need to work hard and do their best.
