Is a foreign language needed to graduate from Madison Central?
- If you plan to attend a four- year institution, you need to review the admission requirements of that school. The number of foreign language requirements if any, vary depending on the school.
How many classes do I need to sign up for next year?
- 8 blocks worth of credits.
Semester Classes take =1/2 credits
Full Year Courses=1 credit
1/2 credits (semester credits) need to occur in pairs. Band is the only exception.
What do I do if I want to play Football, Basketball, Softball or Baseball?
- Football – meets every day for one block all year long – 1 credit is earned. As long as students participate in spring training this April, they will be on the 9th grade team. These students should sign up for Football and 6 other credits for a total of 7.
- Basketball (Girls and Boys), Fast Pitch Softball, and Baseball – meets every day for one block all year long – 1 credit is earned. Tryouts will be this spring. If they are NOT playing football, these students should sign up for 8 credits just as though they will NOT make the team. At the bottom of their trifold, they should write “If I make basketball, then drop ………”. They should list 2 full year courses or a combination of half credits to drop for Team Sports.
What do I do if I want to participate in Golf, Power Lifting, Track, Cheerleading or
Dance Team?
- Golf, Power lifting and Track – meets every day for one block during second semester – ½ credit is earned. Tryouts will occur.
- Cheerleading and Dance Team – meets every-other day for one block during first semester - ½ credit earned. Tryouts will occur this spring. They will need to sign up for 8 full credits as though they will NOT make the squad. At the bottom of their trifold, they should write “If I make cheerleading, then drop ____”. They should list one semester course such as Contemporary Health to take off their first semester schedule next year. They will earn one-half credit for this squad, just like any other semester course. They can earn a maximum of 8.0 credits.
What do I do if I want to play Soccer?
- Soccer – meets every-other-day for one block all year long – 1 credit is earned. Tryouts will occur this spring. They will need to sign up for 8 full credits as though they will NOT make the team. At the bottom of their trifold, they should write “If I make soccer, then drop ____”. They should list one year-long or two semester courses to take off their schedule next year. They will earn one-whole credit for this squad, just like any other year-long course. They can earn a maximum of 8.0 credits.
What do I do if I want to play Junior Varsity or Varsity Sports?
- Junior Varsity and Varsity Sports –Any of the Junior or Varsity Sports that occur after school, students do not receive credit for them, except if mentioned above. Students will need to sign up for 8.0 credits.
- The tryouts are next year, except for Girls’ Volleyball, which will be this spring. Students in Volleyball will meet every other day.
What do I do if I want to participate in Band?
- Band – meets every day for one block during first semester, and every-other-day for one block during second semester – 1 credit is earned. There are no tryouts, students who are in 8th grade band will be allowed to take 9th grade band. The high school band director, will discuss chair auditions. Band students should sign up for 6.5 credits in addition to band. They are the one exception to the pairing of semester credits. Band is 1 credit, so band students have the opportunity to earn 7.5 credits next year.
Swimming
- Swimming- Swimmers will have swim practice 4th and 8th blocks first semester. Students should list one full class or two semester classes to drop if they are selected for the swim team.
