Dear Parents,
AP exam season is fast approaching! If your student is taking an AP exam, please know that preparing for the exam is imperative to pass (which is a minimum score of 3). In case you are not familiar with AP exams, students will take a multiple choice section and FRQ (free response/writing portion). The student will receive a score 1 to 5, with 1 being the lowest and 5 being the highest. A 3 is considered passing and will get your student college credit at any public university in Mississippi.
All AP classes are different. What is not different, though, is the preparation that students must take in order to get a 3 (or 4 or 5). A student being in an AP class and having an A average (even a 110 average/highest) will not guarantee that student a 3. I tell students you can go to medical school and not pass your Boards. You can go to law school and not pass the Bar. I have known individuals get a teaching degree but fail the Praxis. No matter the exam, you HAVE to prepare. Below, you will find suggestions to help your student prep for the AP exam. Please find your correct AP class (that I teach).
THIS IS TRUE FOR ANY OF THE THREE CLASSES LISTED BELOW... if your student is very responsible, he/she may be fine watching videos and reviewing AP Classroom practice questions. If your student prefers some structure, there is a link below where you can purchase a review guide. This is only one review guide out there (you may find another one you like better). I have had students use these review guides to get a passing score. Please know these review guides are not required. Years ago, I used to have students who would buy the book 5 Steps to a 5 to prep for the exam. Now, instead of books, there are online packets.
AP Government: (below)
This is one of the hardest exams to pass (it has a low passing rate). The multiple choice counts for 50% of the score. The FRQ section counts for the other 50% of the score.

AP Microeconomics: (below)
The multiple choice section is around 67% of the score; the FRQ section is around 33% of the score. This class was taught in the fall. If your student is taking the Micro exam, I will be holding review sessions a few mornings leading up to the exam. If your student is not part of the Remind group (for exam takers), please ask your student to come email me for the Remind code.
